Chaos rules this cosmos. The very workings of Reality are suspect. Your Gamemaster is the Ultimate Guide to the multi-verse. Before you begin to study these rules you need to understand a couple of the underlying design concepts behind the Storm Worlds. First, like all of Susan's game systems, the Storm Worlds is meant to be "Roll-Your-Own" role-playing game. That means we are building a general outline and it is up to the Gamemaster, players and readers to fill in the details for themselves. When you find something which is vague, we meant it to be. We want you to add your own common sense, experience, and fantasies to the game to resolve the questions which come to you. That is why we have Gamemasters. Second the Storm Worlds were born in the history of Dragon Storm. Storms ravaged through the Astral World on the day that the Dragons died on Grandillar. That caused the hidden Blackwind Clan Dragons to go berserk. They lashed out adding their living ferment to the dieing dragons madness. The result was a series of storms carried through the Astral World that reached virtually every world in the Multi-verse. Since that day the worlds have been chaotic, almost as though all history restarted for them all. The Pylos Demon Lords had controlled the majority of the Multi-Verse through Propaganda, Lies and cruel application of power. Now they are trying to pull back together a Multi-Verse that has awoken. A very difficult campaign of reconquest is in their future. Each world, ranging from Space Faring races, to mutant super heroes to mythological worlds all share the trauma of rebirth and the first true freedom from oppression they have ever experienced. The Alpha Core rules are going to be the underlying universal rules we will use for future CRPG worlds from Susan Van Camp. The purpose in these web pages is to begin spreading the rules through the community. We will also be taking your input into the rules so that we arrive at a set of rules that will be clear to both GM's and Players. Susan has developed a series of fantasy, whimsy, and science fiction world backgrounds that we want to publish over the next few years. By establishing a set of Core rules to build around, we will be able to create and publish a series of worlds. This will make it possible for us to have a starting point that we can expand for each of the different worlds in the multiverse that exists in Susan's imagination. It will also offer the possibility that other people may want to create their own worlds using Susan's system. But, that is a subject for another time and place. These rules are derived from the Dragon Storm rules. We do not intend on changing the DS game. It shall continue just as it is. As we work through these rules you will find an ever expanding list of page links to the right. Keep in mind that this is the Alpha version of the rules and you can expect a number of changes before we publish these, or any of the worlds we are interested in. And now a note to clarify the status of Dragon Storm. Dragon Storm is an advanced gaming system. It requires extreme cooperation between Gamemasters and Players. It is designed as a free flowing and open system that can be crafted to the group that is playing it. It represents the ultimate freedom in the system designed by Susan. No rule within DS is absolute until the GM says so, and even that can change during a game session depending on the changing situations. It is full on creativity, freedom and fun in its original design. However, we have discovered that there are those people who bring the rules bound attitudes of typical RPG's to a DS game. The Core Rules are being created to let people adapt from typical RPG thinking to a more open CRPG system and ultimately be able to handle the full creativity that DS requires. Therefore, DS will continue to add new and different concepts, magics, and stay as it now exists. |
